Msde Installation Failed While Installing Qc

27.10.2019

I currently am working on making an install disk for my companies software that relies on MSDE 2000 SP4. I created an install disk, with setup Factory 6.0, that copies the exracted MSDE SP4 setup Files to the C Drive and executes Setup.exe /settings setup.ini /log C: SQLinstall.log /q+ The Setup.ini File is as follows OptionsDISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0SAPWD=PasswordSECURITYMODE=SQL after that I prompt the user to restart. Which did succeed, and on reboot finish the installs for my companies software and setup the database tables. Now this usually works just fine on win2k and XP. However upon shutdown. Windows Failed to Boot and a blue screen popped up with SQL Server at Logon Memory Address 0 (This is all second hand knowledge since they started reloading windows without me) Apparently booting in safemode gave the same error and they did not try the command prompt.

I have seen this error twice both on win 2k machines with the following specs Windows 2000 SP4 2.2 GHz 512 Mb Ram 30 Gigs HD Thanks in advance. As MR-T says it's probably best to start over if you have a small environment. When you add your ESX hosts back in it will re-populate the database with the VM and Host information. Things that you will lose are historical performance data, custom attributes, resource pools. If you want to know more about what is in the database I have it documented here: Fyiif you find this post helpful, please award points using the Helpful/Correct buttons.=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Thanks, Eric Visit my website: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=.

Hi sx2010, Could you please kindly let us know if you have already installed.NET Framework 3.5 before you upgrade?

According to the error messages, the most possible cause should be the upgrade was unable to find BPAClient.DLL. Upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 will fail if.NET Framework 3.5 is installed prior to upgrade. To fix this issue, please copy the BPAClient.dll from drive: Program Files Microsoft SQL Server 90 Setup Bootstrap BPA bin to drive: Program Files Microsoft SQL Server 90 Setup Bootstrap BPA and then ran the setup again. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

The only difference to the installation guide is that I cant install the 'Corrected MS SQL Collation' because select serverproperty('collation') returns 'Latin1GeneralCIAS' and the INSTCOLL program expects 'SQLLatin1GeneralCP850BIN'.

Could this be the reason for the installation crash? How can I change the collation of SQL server (Im using MSDE so I dont have advanced administration tools)?

Can I reinstall SQL server with the correct collation? How (Couldnt find information at the microsoft site)?

Thanks in advance Helmut. With IPCC Express 4.X out of the box IPCC Express no longer installs SQL Server as its base DB server component, but instead installs Microsoft MSDE 2000 which works fine if you are going to maintain a standalone IPCC Express solution. However, if you want to go to high availability you are required to have SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition in order to get the SQL clustering required for IPCC Express' High Availability (HA) option. As I understand it, Cisco encourages two options, A) customer provides a SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition license or B) purchase, at additional cost, the Cisco customized SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition license and software. My customer wants to go with option A because they have a Microsoft VLA already and want to keep their software under one contract. My question is this, how do I properly install/upgrade SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition on the IPCC Express 4.X server? Also, which point do I install it, before or after the initial IPCC Express Install?

I know with Cisco's provided version of SQL you check a box during the IPCC Express Setup that states you want to install SQL2K which then Cisco's SQL installer basically performs an upgrade on the MSDE 2000 and then does some sort of schema update. Please help, just trying to find a good solution for installing a customer provided SQL license. Rwelsford, It appears that in the past few days you have not received a response to your posting. Message Edited by SpeedStep on 07:34 PM. I had MSDE installed on my machine, but I had problems making it work. I installed the Visual Studio 2005Beta2, and it apparently installed MSDE 2005. I deinstalled MSDE 2000, then tried to make MSDE 2005 work. After lots of hair pulling I finally found the instance name, reset the authenitcation method, and reset the SA password. Then I found out all my sql tools don't work with it. No enterprise manager or query analyzer.

So off MSCE 2005 came from my machine. I reinstalled MSCE 2000, but I cannot login. I am not sure if I don't have the proper instance name, or password for the sa account.

I have not really found any good into on setting up the msce 2000 software. I think it found the old username/password info because whtn I started it, it did not ask me for any of that information. How can I reload/set the admin password? I would like to get it going so I can start playing with visual studio 2005.

I sure hope it knows how to play with MSDE 2000 properly.Jr.Coder. Post Author: SMuhilan CA Forum: Deployment Hi, I am using Crystal report 8.5. My Database sqlserver 2000.

Here's the scenario: I have a MSDE 2000 installation running, already patched to SP3. Instancename is 'STO'. I've downloaded SQL2000.MSDE-KB884525-SP4-X86-ENU.exe and extracted the archive to C: SQL2KSP4. This happens even if I specify the exact instancename and supply the sa user and pwd! Any ideas?` Thanks in advance and regards Clemens.

In general, this should work. There are specific limitations, which I think are well spelled out in BOL. Here's a copy and paste; hopefully this will describe your issue: In SQL Server 2000, the identification of the server connection endpoints was performed by the SQL Server service. SQL Server 2005 replaces that function with the SQL Server Browser service. If you install SQL Server on a computer that is also running SQL Server 2000 or MSDE, you must ensure that SQL Server 2000 or MSDE is upgraded to Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later. Versions prior to SP3 do not properly share port 1434 and may not make your SQL Server instances available to requesting client applications.

Although you can change the services startup order so that the SQL Server Browser service starts before SQL Server 2000 or MSDE, the recommended resolution is to update all older versions of SQL Server to the latest service pack. When an instance of SQL Server 2000 is installed on the computer, if the SQL Server Browser is not running, the SQL Server 2000 listener service starts. If SQL Server Browser starts after the listener service, it waits 5 seconds for SQL Server 2000 to give up port 1434. If that does not occur, SQL Server Browser fails to start. To resolve this problem with versions of SQL Server 2000 prior to service pack 3, stop SQL Server 2000, start SQL Server Browser, then restart SQL Server 2000.

The SQL Server 2000 listener service continues to attempt to start on port 1434, so the SQL Server 2000 instance should be upgraded to service pack 3 as soon as possible. SQL Server 7.0 had no similar capabilities and has no conflicts with SQL Server Browser. The scene: Old reliable Win2k crashes (killed the MB). Any tricks or suggestions short of Buying XP Pro??? I have intermittant crashes on my Windows 2000 computers. Application log says The Shell stopped unexpectedly and explorer.exe was restarted TID10080088 is very similar to the issues that I am having.

But mine are on Win2K. Upgraded to IE55SP2, but still had problems.

Funny thing though. If I waited 30 seconds at the Novell Login, before logging in, it wouldn 't crash, which leads me to believe that it is a timing issue with NALEXPLD.EXE. Doesn 't happen often enough to cause me great concern, however it is annoying. I just restart the machine and my apps continue to load. I run Nalexpld.exe from the local machine. I 'm deploying my machines a little differently than most because of what the powers that be wanted. Our image has nothing but the 4.83 sp1 client on it.

When first deployed, the zen sp1 client side update runs, reboots, then it runs NALEXPLD.exe from the server to update the files on the local workstation since our image was created before zen 32sp1 came out. Usually this Explorer.exe happens when running nalexpld.exe from the server. I reboot the machine and it then runs normally for the remainder of the apps. This problem ocurrs for me about once every 25 or 30 machines. Hello, The main problem of MSDE ( and SQL Server 2000 ) is to detect all the incompatibilities created by the depreciated featuresYou should have a look on this article:whole chapter 10 is related to the upgrade MSDE towards SQL SERVER 2008 ( including SQL Server Express 2008 )I got this link thru the short article of Mike Wachal:hope that post will be helpful for you.Of course, don't hesitate to post again for more help or explanationsHave a nice day. Hey all, I cannot install SQL Server 2012 Express, I receive always the following error: ITLE: SQL Server Setup failure. SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: '.' , hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. I already tried to remove the MSDE registry entries and directories as told here: 320873 How to manually remove a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) instance But I still cannot install SQL Server 2012 Express. How can I find out where the problem lies? Is it relevant that I have some SQL Server 2012 installation already due to Visual Studion 2012?

Kind regards, Gleb. I have a vb.net desktop application that uses msde 2000 for its databasing. I am trying to create a setup file using the output of my desktop application and the msde 2000 merge modules in order to install my own build plus an instance of msde 2000. The setup runs properly and then asks me to restart my machine. After the restart, however, there is no such instance running on my machine. I am adding the following internal properties to my msi file using ocra: SQLMSDESelected 1SqlInstanceName MidasSqlSaPwd Password1SqlSecurityMode SQLSqlDataDir C: Program Files Microsoft SQL Server MSSQL$Midas DataSqlProgramDir C: Program Files Microsoft SQL ServerThis should create an instance of msde on my machine but when I try to connect using enterprize manager or query analizer (I connect to machinename Midas), then I get the standard can not connect error. I am at my witt's end and would really appreciate any help.

After a flawless installation of VMWare workstation on my SuSE 9.2 Professional host system, I created a Windows 2000 Professional virtual partition and installed a Windows 2000 Professional guest system from an original Windows 2000 Professional CD (no service packs) and then installed VMTools on said Win2K Pro installation. All of that went as smooth as silk (sans for a 2.5 hour Win2K installation). The only problem I've found is that bridged networking doesn't work from the guest system. Command-promptipconfig /release then /renew gets me an IP of 169.254.186.230 which I've been told by my Windows 2000 peers means that DHCP failed to receive a ligit response. My SuSE 9.2 network config: eth0 - 100base-T ethernet device eth1 - 802.11a/b/g Intel Centrino 2200 device As per my setup of the virtual machine, I bridged to eth1. And eth0 was disabled (via ifdown eth0). I'm on a wireless network that is DHCP-enabled and functional as such.

What other info can I provide? Is there something I am missing? Should I be trying a different networking configuration? Thanks for the help!

Cheers, Etienne. Well, I've been able to get networking working fine with the 'Custom: Specific virtual network' against /dev/vmnet8 (which is connected to my /dev/eth1 wireless adapter). That works great.

Now, when I'm at work, I've tried using /dev/vmnet1 (which is my gigabit ethernet adapter) but have a problem with proxy configuration. We have a non-auto-config authenticating proxy server here (MS domain authenticated), which I can configure fine in SuSE 9.2, but which I can't figure out via VMWare. Thnx, Etienne. I recently upgraded my Unity server to 3.1(5). I am running MSDE 2000 as the data store and I applied the SP3 for MSDE.

I had to run a command line 'setup upgradesp /sqlrun blanksapwd=1' to get it to MSDE SP3 to install. After installation and MSDE starts, it logs an event message indicating that the sa password is blank and to change it. My question is, does Unity use the SA account at all? Looking at current activity using SQL Enterprise Manager, I don't see the SA account using any of the databases associated with Unity (UnityDb and ReportDb), but there are a couple of instances of SA being logged in.

I don't remember having to specify a SA password when MSDE was originally installed, however I have slept a few times since then and may have forgotten doing that.:) Thanks in advance. Thanks in Advance. Sahil Girotra. Hi, How do you mean MSDE 2000 SQL-DMO? If it is just a matter of upgrading a database, you should start with the SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor:then have 3 options to choose between: 1. Use Copy Database WizardYou can find instructions here: or here:Detach and Reattach the databaseInstructions: Backup and RestoreInstructions: I prefer 3. Backup and Restore. With either method, you need to script all your jobs and logins if you want to transfer them (there is a Transfer Logins task in SSIS you can use as well) because you cannot copy/attach/restore any of the system databases. After the upgrade, you might want to change the compatibility level (see spdbcmptlevel in Books Online) and you must run spupdatestats in every database.

I'm currently using a Neo2 (6728) with 2 80GB serial ata attached to sata1 and 2 and an IDE cdrom attached as a slave to IDE2. During the installation of win2k, I pressed F6 to install the ICH5R drivers for sata1 and sata2. After the loading of the drivers and some other stuff, the installation always hangs on the blue installation screen and the status showing 'setup is now starting windows 2000'. Even if i tried the installation without loading the ICH5R drivers, the same thing happens. Have anyone else had any success installing win2k with similar setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Does Virtual Center required MSDE or SQL Software? Taken from the VirtualCenter requirements page: The VirtualCenter database must have one of the following compatible database formats: Microsoft Access (default) You do not need to have a Microsoft Access database installed to use this option. VirtualCenter stores the database in Microsoft Access format. Note: Using the Microsoft Access database for production environments is not recommended.

It is intended for demonstration and trial purposes only. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Microsoft SQL Server 7 Oracle 8i, Oracle 9i, and Oracle 10g Note: VMware recommends using the Microsoft Access Database only for demonstration environments and proof of concepts. This database is not recommended for production deployments. For production environments, use either the SQL Server or Oracle database. Just to elaborate what pinal has mentioned, you might have installed SQL Server Management Studio Express edition (SSMSEE) and when you open SSMSEE you get CONNECT TO SQL SERVER window.

In that window click on SERVER NAME combo and select Browse for more option. If you have installed MSDE you should be able to see that in this window.

You can also get the instance installed on your machine from Services.msc (control pannel - services) or from command prompt (c: ) SQLCMD -L commandMadhuMCITP, MCTS, MCDBA,MCP- Blog: http://experiencing-sql-server-2008.blogspot.com/. Hi I am looking for a method to install unattended NDPS printers on Windows 2000 workstations by means of a command line or batch file? Assigning NDPS printers via OU, Group or User is not an option. We have a lot of printers and almost everybode should have the possibility to print everywhere after installing the printer drivers by themselves. We are using NetWare 5.1 sp6e and our printer environment is standardized on HP and Lexmark. Any other tips/comments regarding this issue will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Dirk Vandenhende.

Moved up to corecenter v166 recently, and to my maddeningness it has a new quirk. After loading win2k, I'll often use corecenter to play with FSB speeds as I setup new media accessories or software. I then exit the center and kill the process, startup speedfan and or sandra2004. After observing the chassis and cpu reactions to the new settings, I'll kill speedfan, sandra, etc and wish to restart corcenter for revisions to settings. NOW, on restart Corecenter v166 tells me it DOES NOT SUPPORT my motherboard, even though it automatically loaded with win2k and accepted setting changes successfully befor being closed/killed the first time. The previous v16xx versions DID NOT have this reaction to speedfan and killing/restarting within the same win2k session. And after rebooting, Corecenter restarts successfully every time.

Hy, Can anybody help me? I downloaded the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A (which have 42.9 mb ) from Microsoft site ( ). I run the kit exe, i set the sa password and a name for instance, and begin the installation.

After it finished, nothing isn't happend. I restart my pc, and the sql agent is offline, same the services and the instance. What is the problem? Other problem: i have the kit for MS SQL Server 2000 Enterprise. I run the setup, i choose the Install database driver option and i receive a prompt message which tell me that the Sql Server 2000 Enterprise edition server component is not supported on my operating system, and that only the client components will be availabe if i will continue with the installation. My OS is Windows XP Professional SP 2, and i read that the sql server 2000 is supported by Xp Prof, so what is the problem?

Why i can't install the sql server 2000 on my system. I tried on Xp Prof, without SP 2, and i had the same problem. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi, Im having problems installing windows 2000 on my setup. Im using 4 maxtor drives in RAID 5 using the RAID setup utility. Everything seems to go ok at first during the install, hit F6 during startup to enter the drivers and load both drivers at the relevant point.

After this windows is unable to find a hard drive to install onto. The RAID is set up as per the manual and the RAID utility shows everything as ok. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Matt AMD 3500+ 2 Gb Crucial mem 800MHz 4x maxtor drives. Hi, I'm trying to install VC 2.0 onto a Windows 2000 AS server. This is a VMware Server VM.

The VM is a fresh install of Windows 2000 AS, with SP4, the Vi3 client and.Net 1.1 installed. No other applications have been installed. The setup begins OK, I choose the defaults settings and have VC install the MSDE DB as I don't have Oracle and this is just a test setup.

The install dies with the following error: Error 25003. Setup failed to create the VirtualCenter repository. For more details check the.

I've checked the log in the vpx dir and if there's an error there it's not obvious what it is. All I see is: Which is where it looks like it's gone wrong. The install guide says that selecting MSDE requires no further configuration, is this correct? I've also installed MSDE manually and then run the VC installer with the same results. Does anyone have an idea as to what I'm doing wrong?

I've done a search on VMTN fr the error message but it ame back with only one result which was related to Oracle, apparently it worked fine with MSDE. Many thanks, Colin. Inital setup runs fine. After rebooting and trying to run Configuration Setup, I get the following message in a Setup pop-up box: The following problem was found while verifying that the system meets the installation requirements: Unable to open a SQL Connection to the Unity database. System is only DC for domain/forest Windows 2000 SP2 E2K SP3 Installed Unity 3.1(3) MSDE 2000 w/SP2 I installed SQL Enterprise Manager and looked at the databases. There does not appear to be anything for Unity.

What should show up? Any ideas on how to get past this?

I created a slipstream CD of Windows 2000 Pro w/ Service Pack 4 and followed the instructions in the manual to copy the RAID drivers to a floppy. My disks are installed and configured for a stripped SATA RAID. When I run the Win2k installer, all goes fine as I supply the RAID drivers from the disk.

The installer chugs away for a little while until the bar at the bottom displays 'Starting Windows'. Then, after it thinks a little while longer, it crashes to a BSOD.

I tried this a couple times to be sure it wasn't a fluke, and also tried it with the supplied 'XP only' driver disk, just to be sure. Every time it crashes. The error reads: 'PROCESS1INITIALIZATIONFAILED' and also has the standard useless info about trying it again or asking your sysadmin. I recently had to do a fresh install of CRS 4.0(5) after my AD profile became corrupted after I tried to patch it with sr2. To make a long story short I had to reinstall the server using the default MSDE database instead of SQL 2000 like I had before.

I was using mix-mode authentication to run call center reports using Cisco Historical Reports Microsoft Reporting Services. I can't run in mixed-mode authentication under MSDE. Mixed-mode breaks Cisco Historical Reporting. Is there someway that I can export or replicate that data to another SQL server so that I can run my custom reports? The CRS and CallManager are not on the domain.

From CallManager 4.13 w/SQL2000 I can see the MSDE databases on the CRS server. Like in a subject, I have a problem instaling and using DSC module for LV. This problem is the same on versions from 8.0 to 8.5, because I tried them all.1. When I try to install DSC over regular LV, everything goes well with the installation until reboot.2. After rebooting at the end of installation (on a first windows start after installation), I am getting error message on MSDE Setup (picture in attachment), related with administrator account on my computer. Yes, I am doing all of this with admin account.3.

When I try to manually execute msdesetup.exe, like it's suggested in previous message, I am getting another error message that says 'Error while lounching MSDE setup!' Then, DSC have such behavior that it crashes when I try to deploy shared variables.Any suggestions, please?Thnx in advance!B.

I'm new to the whole VMWare universe and have a question. First here is a rundown of our simple network: 1. SBS 2000 (running Exchange 2000, ISA 2000, DNS, AD) 2.

Windows 2000 Server (setup as a Domain Controller) These two although not supported by MS have been workin fine since 2003 I recently aquired an ESX server and used VMWare Converter 3.0.2u1 build-62456 to create a virtual SBS 2000 server copy onto it. After starting up the newly created Virtual SBS 2000 Server (and of course unplugging the SBS 2000 we made a virtual copy from), users were able to login fine, surf the internet, get their email through Exchange 2000 and thought that everything was working great. After which I went to our Data Center where our Windows 2000 Server is located and noticed that it could not connect to the Virtual SBS 2000 no longer. I recieved file replication errors along with the inability to even browse UNC shared folders, etc when I tried to log into the network as administrator (no other user has rights to login locally on the Win2k Server). From the Virtual SBS 2000 server I was able to browse our Windows 2000 UNC shared folders and files without any problems. We keep our user profiles on our Windows 2000 server and found it interesting that our users logged into the network fine, loaded their Profiles without any errors, but when you are on the windows 2000 server and trying to login as administrator it said I access denied when it tried to load the administrator profile locally logging in. Do I have to DCPromo our Win2k server back to just a standalone workstation?

Do I can make table and manage it accordingly using MSDE alone??? Or in order for me to create table I need to installed SQL Server.???Any information is highly appreciated.

This error occurs when credentials are passed across multiple computer connections. If you are using Windows Authentication, and the Kerberos version 5 protocol is not enabled, this error occurs when credentials are passed across more than one computer connection. To work around this error, consider using stored credentials or prompted credentials.

For more information about how to work around this issue, see. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server). This error is returned by the instance of the Database Engine that hosts the report server database.

In most cases, this error occurs because the SQL Server service is stopped. Or, if you are using SQL Server Express with Advanced Services or a named instance, this error will occur if the report server URL or connection string for the report server database is not correct. To work through these issues, do the following:. Verify that the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service is started. On the computer that hosts the instance of the Database Engine, click Start, click Administrative Tools, click Services, and scroll to SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER). If it is not started, right-click the service, select Properties, in Startup Type select Automatic, click Apply, click Start, and then click OK. Verify that the report server URL and report server database connection string is correct.

Failed While Installing Dynamic Web Module 3.0

If Reporting Services or the Database Engine was installed as a named instance, the default connection string that is created during Setup will include the instance name. For example, if you installed a default instance of SQL Server Express with Advanced Services on a server named DEVSRV01, the Report Manager URL is DEVSRV01 Reports$SQLEXPRESS. Furthermore, the database server name in the connection string will resemble DEVSRV01 SQLEXPRESS. For more information about URLs and data source connection strings for SQL Server Express, see. To verify the connection string for the report server database, start the Reporting Services Configuration tool and view the Database Setup page.

A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. This error is returned by ADOMD.NET provider. There are several reasons why this error can occur. If you specified the server as 'localhost', try specifying the server name instead. This error can also occur if memory cannot be allocated to the new connection. For more information, see.

If the error also includes 'No such host is known', it indicates that the Analysis Services server is not available or is refusing the connection. If the Analysis Services server is installed as a named instance on a remote computer, you might have to run the SQL Server Browser service to get the port number used by that instance. (Report Services SOAP Proxy Source). If you get this error during report model generation, and the additional information section includes 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied', you might be encountering the following conditions:.

The connection string for the data source includes ' localhost'. TCP/IP is disabled for the SQL Server service. To resolve this error, you can either modify the connection string to use the server name or you can enable TCP/IP for the service. Follow these steps to enable TCP/IP:. Start SQL Server Configuration Manager. Expand SQL Server Network Configuration.

Select Protocols for MSSQLSERVER. Right-click TCP/IP, and select Enable. Select SQL Server Services.

Right-click SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER), and select Restart. If you open this SP1 application: You will see this: Report Manager or report server, just after upgrading but before ASP.NET is enabled or IIS is started Internet Explorer cannot display the Web page. (rsServerConfigurationError) For more information about this error, navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors. These errors will no longer occur after you apply SP2 or upgrade to SQL Server 2008 and configure the report server for operation.

By default, Management Studio uses the Reporting Services Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider to establish a connection to the report server. If the WMI provider is not installed correctly, you will get the following error when attempting to connect to the report server: Cannot connect to. The Reporting Services WMI provider is not installed or is misconfigured (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient). To resolve this error, you should reinstall the software. For all other cases, as a temporary work-around, you can connect to the report server through the SOAP endpoint:.

In the Connect to Server dialog box in Management Studio, in Server Name, type the report server URL. By default, it is Or if you are using SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services, it is To resolve the error so that you can connect using the WMI provider, you should run Setup to repair Reporting Services, or reinstall Reporting Services. An rsReportServerDatabaseLogonFailed error can occur if you are using a domain account for the connection from the report server to the report server database connection, and the password for the domain account has been changed. The full error text is: 'The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. The logon failed ( rsReportServerDatabaseLogonFailed).

Failed

Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.' If you reset the password, you must update the connection.

For more information, see. This error occurs when the report server cannot connect to the SQL Server relational database that provides internal storage to the server. The connection to the report server database is managed through the Reporting Services Configuration tool. You can run the tool, go to the Database Setup page, and correct the connection information.

Using the tool to update connection information is a best practice; the tool ensures that dependent settings are updated and that services are restarted. For more information, see and. This error can also occur if the Database Engine instance that hosts the report server database is not configured for remote connections. Remote connection is enabled by default in some editions of SQL Server.

To verify whether it is enabled on the SQL Server Database Engine instance you are using, run the SQL Server Configuration Manager tool. You must enable both TCP/IP and named pipes. A report server uses both protocols.

For instructions on how to enable remote connections, see the section 'How to Configure Remote Connections to the Report Server Database' in. If the error includes the following additional text, the password expired on the account used to run the Database Engine instance: 'An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not permit remote connections. (provider: SQL Server Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).' To resolve this error, reset the password. When you have configured Reporting Services to integrate with a SharePoint product or technology on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you might receive the following error message when you try to grant access on the Grant Database Access page in SharePoint Central Administration: 'A connection to the computer cannot be established.' This happens because User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 requires explicit acceptance from an administrator to elevate and use the administrator token when performing tasks that require administrator permissions.

In this case, however, the Windows SharePoint Services Administration service cannot be elevated to grant the Reporting Services service account or accounts access to the SharePoint configuration and content databases. Note In SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services, only the Report Server service account requires database access; in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services SP2, both the Report Server Windows service account and the Report Server Web service account require database access. For more information about the Report Server service account in SQL Server 2008, see. There are two workarounds for this issue.

In one workaround, you can temporarily turn off UAC and use SharePoint Central Administration to grant access. Important Use caution if you turn off UAC to work around this issue, and turn on UAC immediately after you grant database access in SharePoint Central Administration. If you do not want to turn off UAC, use the second workaround provided in this section. For information about UAC, see the Windows product documentation. In the other workaround, you can manually grant database access to the Reporting Services service account or accounts. You can use the following procedure to grant access by adding the Reporting Services service account or accounts to the correct Windows group and database roles. When you create the report server databases, ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB, on a virtual SQL Server that runs in a MSCS cluster, the remote name in the format $ might not be registered to SQL Server as a login.

If you have configured the Report Server service account as an account that requires this remote name for connections, users cannot connect to the /reports and /reportserver directories in Reporting Services. For example, the built-in Windows account NetworkService requires this remote name.

To avoid this issue, use an explicit domain account or a SQL Server login to connect to the report server databases.
